The oil in your engine serves a key purpose: it lubricates the engine’s moving parts. Without oil, the engine would soon suffer massive damage. Oil is a great lubricant, but it doesn’t tend to last. As time goes by, it begins to break down, and the high heat is part of what makes it less effective. Oil that’s beginning to break down may also make the engine dirtier by depositing sludge. Because of this, it’s necessary to drain the old oil and replace it with new oil. How Often Does My Nissan Need a Conventional Oil Change?

If you’re using conventional oil, your best bet is to get an oil change every 3,000 miles or so. In recent years, you may have heard that it’s not necessary to change oil this often. While this can be true, it only applies to synthetic oil, which can last much longer than conventional--up to 7,500 miles or so. However, traditional oil is less expensive, which is why many still use it. If you’ve decided to stick with conventional, then stick with the 3,000-mile recommendation, too.
